Amanda Brown is a Kaska member of the Liard First Nation. She was born and raised in the Watson Lake area, located in the south east of the Yukon Territory on the traditional territory of the Kaska Nation.

Amanda would like to acknowledge her late Grandmother Gertrude (Trudy) Dennis, her late Grandmother Annie Pete, Grandfather Charlie Pete, her mother Holly Brown, her father Jimmy Stewart, her father Donny Boya, her partner Jesse Johnston, her son Brody, her stepdaughter Lily and stepson Bronx, and the many friends and family who have walked with her and continue to support her throughout the journey.

Amanda holds a Diploma in Exercise Science from Lethbridge College (Alberta) and was recently accepted to transfer into the Athabasca University, Bachelor of Health Administration Program.

Since she returned home to Watson Lake in 2019, she has been working in the health field, advocating for and working on delivering a holistic approach model to programs. Amanda says she strongly believes everyone deserves good quality health care and access to programs and services.

Before COVID-19, Amanda could always be found actively participating in community gatherings and sports activities. Now, she is finding new ways to connect and be active within the community while remaining safe and following restrictions. She also volunteered as a coach for the Watson Lake Minor Hockey Association and Kaska Warrior Youth Team for the 2019-2020 season.

Amanda is currently working 60 hours bi-weekly at the Watson Lake Community Hospital, developing the First Nation Health Program for the Yukon Hospital Corporation. As an elected Councillor, she is also proud to serve the members of the Government of Liard First Nation.

“My responsibility is to be a voice for the membership, and I oversee the Language, Education, and Health & Social department, and help whenever needed,” she says.

Amanda also sits on the Watson Lake Community Hospital Wellness Committee and participates in the Watson Lake Interagency meetings to be proactive in finding solutions to benefit the entire community.

“Together we are stronger!”

Amanda has also been trained in Non-violent Crisis Intervention, Historical Trauma, Traditional Family Parenting, and is an accredited Triple P Provider (Positive Parenting Provider). She also holds a National Coaching Certification (Hockey) and a standard First Aid CPR/AED level C (expires 2022) certificate.

As a young, dependable First Nations health promoter, with 18 years of experience working in sport and recreation, and five years working in a clinical/hospital setting, Amanda is confident in her ability to utilize her strengths to positively contribute to the Yukon Liberal Party.

She enjoys learning from the land and hearing the voice of others to enrich her overall knowledge.

“I value my time with loved ones and honour and give thanks for the knowledge and connections I gain through giving back my time and energy supporting my community,” she says.
