John Streicker was elected to represent Southern Lakes on November 7, 2016. John became the Minister of Community Services, and ever since he has been working to make all communities matter. This includes tripling the investment in infrastructure, building bridges between municipal, First Nation and territorial governments, supporting local sport and recreation and listening to communities.

Before COVID-19, John had made 100+ visits to communities to talk to Yukoners directly. When the pandemic hit, his main focus turned to managing the emergency and keeping Yukoners safe.

John is a professional engineer and in the past he was a lecturer on climate change, science advisor at the Yukon Research Centre, columnist for the Whitehorse Star and recreation director at the Marsh Lake Community Centre. He was a Whitehorse City Councillor from 2012 to 2015.

His volunteer experience extends to a variety of events and organizations, including the Marsh Lake Ski-Loppet, the Klondike road relay, the free store at the Southern Lake dumps, the Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition, and Theatre in the Bush.

John has a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s Degree in Engineering. He and his lovely wife, Susan, live on Marsh Lake.
