Katherine Alexander has lived in the Yukon since 1996 and has worked mainly in the non-profit
sector, specifically in agencies addressing social justice. She has a strong connection to the
community of Teslin having taught employment skills at the Yukon College Campus in Teslin.

More recently, she worked at the Council of Yukon First Nations as their Senior Health and
Social Analyst building relationships with Yukon First Nation communities to build self-
determined health, mental wellness, and food security services across the Territory.

Katherine is currently the Director of Policy and Analytics at the newly created Yukon First
Nation Education Directorate where she oversees strategies for systemic change in the
education system. She manages the implementation of a rural and urban nutritional service for
Indigenous children across the territory to receive hot breakfast and lunch at school, along with
developing a wrap around service model to provide allied health supports, early childhood
education and education based advocacy for Indigenous youth.

She also worked very closely with the Ross River Kaska on community economic development
projects. She helped the community access funding for cultural identify programs, traditional
parenting development, nutritional services, culture camps. She is deeply committed to the
community of Ross River and was honoured for opportunity to work with them.

Alexander attended the University of Waterloo, and most recently completed a post graduate
certificate at the Coady Institute in Women’s Leadership through the Canadian’s Women’s
Foundation.

She also studied blacksmithing at Kootenay School of the Arts, after completing the welding
program at the Yukon College.
